Method, limits, and privacy
A career quiz that shows its work.
Short version: This is an exploration tool, not a psychometric diagnosis, labor-market forecast, or substitute for speaking with people who do the work.
The matching model
You choose plain-language words in three categories: experience, personality, and interests. Each word has an explicit, hand-authored mapping to one or more of eight career dimensions: human connection, hands-on action, adaptive judgment, responsibility, communication, systems thinking, originality, and autonomy. Unmapped dimensions stay neutral; we do not infer hidden traits. Your pattern is compared with hand-authored career profiles. AI resilience is shown separately and never boosts the ranking.
Each result quotes the selected words that contributed to its strongest matching dimensions. We compare against 90 genuine occupations across varied sectors and entry routes, then mix the result set across different career lanes so one interest does not pigeonhole you. You can also browse the full career library.
AI notes without the fortune-telling
Every genuine occupation separates a typical U.S. entry route from our editorial task-level AI analysis: what tools can automate or augment, why complete replacement may be harder, and whether task exposure looks lower, mixed, or higher. These are not promises that a role is AI-proof and not occupation-specific probabilities. Job design, technology, regulation, and local demand will change.
Occupational facts were checked October 14, 2026 against the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics Occupational Outlook Handbook and O*NET OnLine. The AI framing is informed by ILO and OECD task-exposure research. We omit unsourced salary, outlook, and replacement statistics.
What the match band means
“Strong,” “promising,” and “worth exploring” are relative signals inside this curated set—not probabilities of happiness or employment. We keep the underlying number for deterministic ranking but do not present false precision. People are not printer drivers; nobody is a perfect install.
Responsible use
Use a result to generate hypotheses. Validate it by interviewing practitioners, observing the work, trying a small project, and checking local training, pay, accessibility, licensing, and demand. Job content and automation exposure vary by employer and region.
Privacy
Your selected skill profile words are written only to sessionStorage in this tab. They are never sent to our API. Closing the tab ends the browser session; you can also start over to clear them.
Prank links call a small API only to create or resolve a random 128-bit locator. DynamoDB stores the locator, chosen surprise-career identifier, schema version, optional non-sensitive nickname/tone, timestamps, and aggregate open/reveal counts—not skill profile words, a genuine result, or recipient identity. Configured API logs omit request bodies, paths, IP addresses, and user agents and expire after seven days.
The prank, with guardrails
After seeing a real match, someone can create a link that temporarily presents one of several unexpected careers. The recipient still builds the same private skill profile, the reveal is explicit, and their genuine result appears instantly without repeating anything. Every forced result is written respectfully because every listed role involves real skill and dignity. The joke is the friend’s meddling—not the work.
